The star you see in Ruby is called asterism. It happens when rutile needles (tiny, hairlike mineral inclusions) grow inside the ruby in a very specific, aligned pattern. When light hits these rutile inclusions at the right angle, it reflects in a way that creates a six-rayed star on the surface.
Asterism appears most strongly in cabochon-cut rubies (smooth, rounded tops), which is why you see the star clearly in bracelet beads.
So the star is NOT added, it’s a natural optical effect caused by the mineral structure.
